What Really Is A Soul Mate?
Along with fairy-tales and Disney, we were once presented with the concept of fate in love: the soul-mate. While many deny it's luster for a childish myth, I believe the hope that one will find a true love in either friendship or in romance a wonder that is hardwired in us all, hidden well but never destroyed.
What exactly is a soul-mate? Is it love or is it more? Many believe that it's a one shot deal- this is why they find it so unlikely. If you don't believe in the power of pull and magnetism of the universe, that puts the odds at a cynical 1 to 7.1 billion. You'd have to do a lot of traveling in your time, and a lot of meeting and greeting.
So, say there is a force at work. Say that you are always being pulled closer to your soul mate with every move you make. Say, the world isn't as big as you think. Let me try to put this abstract concept in a form that's easier to hold.
What's The Big Deal About Love Anyways?
It seems that everyone wants to find the "one" within his or her lifetime and, in modern day, almost every single human gets married at least once in his or her lifetime. So what's the big deal and why so much pressure?

Well, for many people, finding true love adds a sense of meaning to one's life. Feeling as if you have a purpose, a cause. We will all have an end and knowing that you have someone to make it to the end with that you feel intimate with brings a feeling of security; once again it's in our makeup, our instincts.
A Couple Of Ways To Look At The Soul Mate
Not everyone views this concept the same specifically, however, many generally think that the soul-mate is someone who balances you, makes you feel understood, and is someone who you can trust.

The first way, specifically, to view this concept is through a romantic scope, a more idealistic way. In this, people who keep looking for the "one" will continuously pass up relationships that do not meet their standards. They seek something that is in-tangible. I feel a good quote for this comes from Aldous Huxley's The Doors Of Perception in which he writes "Embraced, the lovers desperately try to fuse their insulated ecstasies, in vain".
The Second way, specifically, to view the concept of the soul-mate is in a more practical way. In this, people tend to meet, date, and then find love as the relationship progresses. This way lacks the zest that is typically associated with the term but it seems more solid and flexible in the long term. I feel a proper quote for this one comes from author J.R.R. Tolkien in which he says "... the real soul mate is the one you are actually married to".
In conclusion, I believe every human being would like to have someone special in their life to be appreciated by and to appreciate. Many things can't be explained, they can only be witnessed and it can only called "luck" by most if you do find something of a soul-mate. Remember, the fairy-tale and adventure in life isn't lost, it's just well hidden.
