Don't Be A Fool For Love (Tips for Knowing When You're just being Taken for a Ride)
Avoid being an April Fool this spring - keep an eye out for the tell-tale signs that you're involved with a love rat. If you suspect that you’re being cheated on, check for the give-aways. They don't always mean that your partner is playing away – sometimes a bunch of flowers is just a bunch of flowers – but if you find their behaviour is ticking a lot of these boxes, it might be time to hand them their pink slip. And we don't mean giving them romantic lingerie.
Showered with gifts?
So we all love to be given unexpected gifts once in a while – but could all these over-the-top surprise bouquets and sudden lavish gifts be a sign of overcompensating for the guilt?
Unexplained phone calls
Is your mate disappearing frequently to make or take calls? Is it a problem when you ask who was calling? Checking their phone bill would be a sneaky, mean thing to do. Wouldn’t it?
Moodiness
Hot and cold, sudden strange fits of rage. Is your partner on an emotional roller coaster? If they’re cheating, it’s likely they’ll be torn by conflicting emotions, and this might show up in colorful mood swings.
The silent treatment
Feel like you’re living with a stranger? If your partner seems to drift off into deep thought and won’t share, it could mean they’ve got other things (or other people) on their mind.
Jealousy
It’s a weird one, but many cheaters become wildly jealous. Because they’re playing the field, they have a sneaking suspicion you might be too.
Privacy
They call it the ‘bathroom door’ rule. If your mate suddenly wants a lot more privacy than they used to, and starts closing doors, they are physically and psychologically shutting you out.
Sex dries up
This is a nasty one. It may be that your sex life has gotten a little tired, or it may be that they don’t want to have sex with you – because they’re getting it elsewhere. Another thing to watch for is sudden frantic desire for sex – out of the blue. Has their passion been rekindled by someone else’s attentions?
Gut feeling
Last but by no means least – what do your instincts tell you? While sometimes jealousy can give us that horrible sinking feeling, more often than not if your partner is cheating you will pick up on the signs on some subconscious level. While a gut feeling might not amount to enough to make any accusations, you might want to take a closer look at your relationship and try to set aside some time to focus on how you’re both communicating. It won’t hurt to suggest spending quality time with your lover – unless, that is, they really are taking you for a ride.
